Sun Goblin is a legendary friendship between Texas folk rock and New Jersey metal. Songwriter and vocalist Aurora Whim met brothers Kevin and Danny Murtha, drummer and bassist, in Asheville NC in 2022. The brother’s technical and artistic unanimity gave Aurora’s songs a driving foundation they hadn’t felt before, and the addition of mutual friend James Eddington on lead guitar completed the power house of sweeping melodic lines and gripping dynamics that is Sun Goblin. Aurora’s lyrics are thought provoking and full of feeling, with some songs centering around her work as a conservation biologist.

The band released their first EP, titled “Emergence: First Mud” in October 2023. The record was created with sound engineer Patrick Doyle (engineer for Jennifer Lopez’s platinum single “Booty”) at Artcore Studios in Asheville. The mastering was done by Grammy-nominated Phillip Shaw Bova (engineer for Father John Misty and Feist).
